If you are intending to engage someone to insulate your house you should check that they are registered and that they have an appropriate licence to perform the work.
You can check the Licensing Public Register on OCBA's website at www.ocba.sa.gov.au/licensing to confirm that a particular contractor is licensed.
For queries in relation to the Commonwealth Home Insulation Program please call the safety hotline on 13 17 92.

Fire Hazards
Consumer and Business Services has received reports about installations that have resulted in house fires. Where installers have placed insulation over down lights or ceiling fans or too close to electrical fittings there could be a heat build up - over time this could result in a fire in the roof space.
Consumer and Business Services continues to alert housholders to the risks of incorrectly installed insulation. Houses that are at most risk contain one or more of the following installations in the roof space:
- Halogen down lights
- Pre 1999 electrical wiring
- Gas heater or combustion heater with a flue that goes through the roof
- TV booster or security alarms installed in the roof space
- High intensity heating lamps
- Electrical items such as exhaust fans, transformers, water heaters
For more information about risk factors refer to the Consumer Safety Insulation Self Assessment and Installer Acknowledgement Form.If your house is subject to one of the above risk factors you should advise the installer and ensure that they take appropriate action to avoid creating a fire hazard. You could also encourage them to sign off on the Consumer Safety Insulation Self Assessment and Installer Acknowledgement Form.
Existing Insulation
If you have existing insulation and are concerned about how it has been installed you should consider having it checked. A licensed electrician can undertake a safety inspection to ensure that the insulation is installed correctly and that the safety of down lights and other gas and electrical components have not been compromised.
