Practical completion

Your home will be handed over to you by the builder when the terms of the building work contract, the building schedule, the building specifications and other documents are fulfilled to a point of practical completion. The builder must issue a Statement of Compliance, for work completed, to the relevant planning authority.

As with progress payments, the final payment should only be made when practical completion occurs and hand-over is ready. It is preferable that building work reach practical completion by the finish date fixed in the contract, but would be subject to any extensions of time allowed for in the contract.
