Legitimation of children

If the biological parents of a child are married after the birth of the child, the child may be formally legitimated.

Legitimations can only be registered in the state in which your child was born.

By formally legitimising your child, the birth certificate will be re-registered to show the date and place of marriage.

Changing a child's name

Please note: changing a child's name is a separate process. A change of name application form needs to be completed and forwarded to this office with payment of the current fee.

If you do not have a copy of the child's birth certificate, and wish to have one with the new details, please forward the appropriate fee.
