The Births, Deaths and Marriages Registration Office registers marriages in South Australia, issues certificates certifying entries in the register and conducts civil marriage ceremonies.
Instructions for marrying at the Registry Office
- Obtain a Notice of Intended Marriage form (from our Office or from our website). Office hours are between 8.30am and 4.30pm.
- Lodge the form at least one month prior to the wedding. The form is valid for up to 18 months. You will need to show documentation (i.e. full birth certificate if born in Australia; birth certificate or passport from country of origin if born overseas; marriage certificate and death certificate of former spouse or Divorce Papers if previously married).
- Pay the full fee.
- Book the date and time of the ceremony. Marriages are conducted Monday to Friday between the hours of 10am and 4.30pm.
Your marriage celebrant will provide you with a ceremonial certificate on the day of your wedding, however, please note that Government and non Government agencies are increasingly not accepting these as evidence of marriages and are requiring official certificates.
When do I need to register a change of name ?
Marriage Certificates are available from this office five (5) working days after registration of the marriage occurs.
